Orthopedic Surgery

x-ray

Our pets can have orthopedic disorders of bones, joints and ligaments by birth and through injuries during their lifetime. The most common orthopedic disorders in pets especially dogs are hip dysplasia, patella luxation, and cranial cruciate ligament (CCL) rupture/disease. These disorders are painful but when detected early and given proper veterinary care, affected dogs have a high chance of a successful outcome. Typical symptoms of an orthopedic disorder include difficulty getting up, limping, swelling in the leg, and stiffness or decreased activity level. If you notice any of these problems, you should bring your pet to our facility for an examination. We place the utmost emphasis on pain management to ensure your pet is safe and comfortable throughout the treatment process.

We can perform the following orthopedic procedures at our facility

  • Extracapsular surgery to repair torn CCL
  • Luxating patella surgery
  • Femoral head osteotomy (to fix dislocated hip or congenital hip dysplasia)
  • Limb amputation
